Breastfeeding during pregnancy: Constance & Sebastien

How did you find it during the first trimester?

As it was prior, I think my supply did drop a little with the pregnancy’s natural increase of progesterone, but he was 14 months already so it was ok. I’ve been lucky not to feel too nauseous but also too distracted however my nipples are very sensitive, and toddler feeding isn’t as delicate so we have to readjust the latch sometimes. And remind him to be gentle!

Did your older baby notice the colostrum change around 16 weeks?

No, I think he has noticed the supply as he feeds longer and often asks for more to come back on or continue back to the side he’s already been on.

How did you ensure you kept adequate nutrition seeing as the needs are so high?

With Sebastien, I was really great at nourishing my body, this time around I have eaten sweeter, so less nutritious but ensuring I eat balanced meals (carbs and protein and fats) for breakfast lunch and dinner along with my prenatal vitamins, vit d & iron

Why did you choose to continue?

I truly believe in the benefits both nutritionally and emotionally of breastfeeding. Plus added time for connection, cuddles and playtime as he’ll often have a giggle with me during a feed is so special. At 17mths old, he isn’t demanding with wanting feeds often (twice daily weekend maybe 3) so I’m happy to naturally wean when he is ready or when I feel I wish to

Do you plan to stop?

Only if he chooses to, if it becomes too much for me to manage or impacts the ability to feed my second baby first due End of Jan, if not I’m open to tandem feeding.
