World Breastfeeding Week Series: Ayla & Ruatoki

Q: What has been the most joyous aspect of breastfeeding for you?

The pure connection between my babe and me, it blows my mind every time we sit for a feed. I feel an overwhelming sense of pride and love for myself that I am able to feed my children this way.

Q: What has been the most challenging aspect of breastfeeding?

At the moment I’m rearing a newborn and toddler, two under two! Meeting the needs of both children has been challenging. Breastfeeding takes patience, something toddlers are yet to acquire.

Q: what would you like other breastfeeding mothers/parents to know about breastfeeding?

I would love for parents and key carers to allow time to educate themselves on as many aspects of breastfeeding as they can. Having a support network around the mother will hold her through the breastfeeding journey. Beyond offering a cup of tea or muffin, get right into the nitty gritty of latching and holding her hand when things are feeling heavy.
